Well, we locals all know how amazing our school systems are in the South Bay, but this week Newsweek magazine made it official with Palos Verdes Peninsula High School ranked 60th out of all high schools in the United States! South Torrance High was ranked at 320, and Redondo Union High School at 405th. (Not all high schools applied, so that is probably where our other great high schools Manhattan Beach’s Mira Costa, El Segundo High, and Palos Verdes High School went to!)
U.S. News and World Reports also has a list — they give Mira Costa & Peninsula silver medals. Their criteria are different, giving more weight to schools who prepare economically disadvantaged kids for college, which may have actually hurt our local schools as they don’t have as many of these kids to prepare as some other Los Angeles county areas. However, it is still nice to see our schools recognized!
