Old Torrance

The original city center of Torrance and comprised of the original boundaries of the city, this area contains a number of classic Craftsman and beach Bungalow homes. The Save Historic Old Torrance society was formed to try to encourage homeowners to renovate and preserve these old classics.

The “downtown” area includes the site of the old railroad station, now made into a gourmet restaurant “The Depot” as well as “The Red Car Brewery. The Torrance Bakery is known throughout the South Bay for yummy cakes and other baked goods.

Real Estate/home prices are generally between $430,000 and $800,000, although extremes above and below have been seen due to REO’s at the low end or extremely large new construction at the upper end. Lot sizes are usually around 5000 square feet, but very small (1600) and large (>8000) lots can also be found.

Schools are Torrance Unified. Elementary schools are usually Fern or Torrance, Middle Schools usually Hull or Madrona, and High School is Torrance High, but residents should always check with the city to be sure.
