Redondo Beach Real Estate

The Redondo Beach pier "sails" at sunset

Comprised of two distinctly different halves, Redondo Beach offers something for just about everyone who wants to live in the South Bay. The two portions of the city are connected via a very thin strip near the intersection of 190th street and Pacific Coast Highway.

North Redondo Beach is located just to the east of Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach and offers four distinct neighborhoods: Villas North, commonly called area 151, which is North of Artesia: the Golden Hills (Area 154), which is the area just east of Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach and just south of Artesia; Villas South, also called area 152, which is South of Artesia and East of the Golden HIlls, and El Nido, also known as area 153, which is on the Eastern side of Redondo Beach, near the Galleria shopping center and Inglewood avenue. North Redondo has some newer large homes, a great deal of smaller post-war single family homes, some apartment buildings, and a large proportion of two and three on a lot “townhomes” which are condominiums from a legal point of view but often are completely separate from each other with no common walls. Located closer to the freeway access than South Redondo, the North part of town offers shorter commutes to the Westside and downtown Los Angeles and more affordable housing than the South section, due primarily to its distance from the beach.

South Redondo has four distinct areas: the areas West of Pacific Coast Highway, the area East of PCH which is divided up into the parts North and South of Torrance Boulevard, and the Hollywood Riviera section at the base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. (Parts of the Hollywood Riviera are legally city of Torrance, but all have a Redondo Beach Post Office.) South Redondo Beach is the part of Redondo where you can find ocean views. Housing stock is primarily two or three on a lot townhomes, smaller 7 or 8 unit complexes, and large 6 story condominium buildings along the famous and beautiful Esplanade. A Redondo Condo can be a wonderful starter home for young marrieds, a second vacation home or a maintenance free home for empty nesters!

Redondo Beach has a terrific school district with a truly innovative superintendent of schools and most schools scoring in the high 800′s for their Academic Performance Index (API) score. Riviera Village has numerous restaurants and shops, as does the King Harbor area near the famous Redondo Beach pier. There is also tons of shopping along Artesia Boulevard in North Redondo, and the Galleria Mall with its’ Nordstroms anchor store also brings in shoppers from all parts of the South Bay. Redondo Beach’s high school is noted for its strong college counseling program, its band and music programs, its winning sports teams and it’s magnificent ocean view campus.
