Palos Verdes Estates has long been considered “the” address to have on the hill, both because it was originally developed as a luxury, Italian-themed community and because so many of its’ homes have spectacular views due to it’s location on the Northeast corner of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Being located here means that PVE has closer proximity to the beach cities and the freeways than some parts of Rancho Palos Verdes or Rolling Hills, and it also means that the views are back towards city lights, which allows for night time sparkles as well as gorgeous coastline views during the day.
PVE is comprised of four distinct areas: Valmonte, a quiet enclave with older single family, mostly single-story homes, tree-shaded streets with lush landscaping and once in a while peek-a-boo views of the ocean; Malaga Cove, which is the first cove South when you climb up towards the hill on Palos Verdes boulevard and has the famous Italian fountain in front of the Malaga Cove shopping center; Monte Malaga, which is the area above the Malaga Cove area and which has many spectacular view homes perched on the sides of narrow streets, and Lunada Bay, the next cove further around the hill from Malaga Cove and which is home to the famous Palos Verdes Beach club. Lunada Bay is divided into Upper Lunada and Lower Lunada, with the dividing line being just a couple of streets up from Palos Verdes Drive West.
All of PVE’s residents are eligible to be in line for a membership in the prestigious Palos Verdes Golf Club and the Palos Verdes Beach Club. Memberships are treasured and therefore are rarely relinquished, and waiting lists are long, but this doesn’t seem to stop people from signing up. PVE also has a public stables, PV Stables, located on Via Opata just off of Palos Verdes Drive North and near the start of the Valmonte area, which allows boarders from outside PVE but gives preference to PVE residents.
As with all the PV Peninsula, the schools are remarkably great!
