Rolling Hills Estates is one of the two towns on the peninsula most friendly to horse owners; many lots are zoned for horses and many parts of town have a rural feel with white post and rail fencing, draping eucalyptus and pepper trees, and miles of horse trails.
Special areas include Dapplegrey lanes, including Sorrel, Buckskin, Dapplegrey and Strawberry Lanes, where a private community riding arena is restricted to residents use for a small fee, the area around the primarily Western-style riding Empty Sadddle Club off of Rolling Hills Road, and the areas off of Pony Lane.
Another great area is Silver Spur, off of PV Drive North; this area has many 180 degree view homes.
The unincorporated Los Angeles County area of Palos Verdes Peninsula is included in the Realty area of Palos Verdes Drive North — this includes the desirable tract known as Westfield which combines large lots and horse property with some spectacular views; children are still allowed to go to Palos Verdes Schools but residents deal with Los Angeles County building departments in this area.
