The Palos Verdes area, especially Rolling Hills Estates, Rolling Hills, and parts of Rancho Palos Verdes, is the primary area in the South Bay that is zoned for horses. There are some small parts of Compton that are still zoned this way, but the bulk of the equestrian activity is on “the Hill.” The area has numerous miles of horse trails and tunnels under the major roads so that getting around doesn’t have to mean praying your horse won’t shy at the traffic, and Rolling Hills Estates and Rolling Hills and the unincorporated Palos Verdes Peninsula area have many public arenas for working on that perfect piaffe, oxer, or barrel turn.
