Well, we always have been kind of proud of the South Bay and its low crime rate and great schools. Now, someone has overlaid Google maps with the US Census demographic data. As this picture shows, the South Bay has a significant portion of the map colored “green” for the more affluent areas. Right along the coast, as you would expect, has the darkest green for the highest income homes. However, much of the area shows a high median income, especially the Palos Verdes Peninsula, which is solidly affluent, and the areas just inland in Redondo, Manhattan Beach, and Hermosa Beach. No wonder people want to live in Manhattan Beach!
You can look up other parts of the Los Angeles area OR for that matter, anywhere in the country, here.
Although I always knew that the South Bay had a lot of good paying jobs in the Aerospace, entertainment, financial services, import/export, and sports fields, I was still surprised myself by the coloration on this map. The higher income in this area means that parents can support the local school education foundations, which in turn lead to better schools and the higher Academic Performance Indices (API’s) of many of our local school districts.
