Palos Verdes Estates, known to the locals as PVE, is the oldest of the 4 major cities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula
-
Formed out of the Rancho Palos Verdes of the Sepulveda Family, the Vanderlip family was instrumental in the early 1900's in bringing about the city, with an original master plan for a Spanish themed city. Originally, many of the streets were intended to be commercial, but the Great Depression scuttled these plans -- streets with Plaza in their names are part of these original commercial areas
-
As a consequence, there is very little commercial property in the city -- a small market cluster in Malaga Cove and another in Lunada Bay on Palos Verdes Drive comprises the bulk of the PVE "shopping" district, although PVE residents can go to the Peninsula Center or go down the hill to Torrance's large Del Amo center

City has a very strong master plan and uses a strict art jury and view preservation ordinance to restrict growth and ensure a consistent, uniform appearance to new construction

Excellent Palos Verdes Unified Schools

PVE residents are eligible to apply for membership in the Palos Verdes Country Club, a prestigious golf course, as well as the Palos Verdes Beach Club, a private 1920's luxury beach club. Membership waiting lists are long and there are fees, but this is still considered a highly desirable amenity that makes many people choose PVE over the other three Peninsula cities. |
